Biography
David Chambers was born in Leaside in 1940. He attended Northlea Public School, played Leaside minor hockey and baseball, and Leaside High School where he excelled in football, track and hockey. Dave then played in 1955 with Leaside Biltmores OHA Junior B followed by OHA Junior A 1956 to 1960 – two years with St Michael’s College Majors and also with University of Toronto’s Varsity Blues for hockey and football.
For 14 years, Dave was a head coach in Canadian Universities and in the NCCA (USA) – at the Universities of Saskatchewan, Guelph, York and Ohio State. During that time his teams won 3 Ontario Championships, 1 Canadian National Championship and 1 Central Collegiate (CCHA) Championship.
As an International Head Coach, Dave coached the Canadian National Junior Team to the Gold Medal in Moscow in 1988 and Team Canada to a Gold medal in the Spengler Cup, Davos Switzerland in 1987. He coached the Canadian Student National Team to a Silver medal at the World Student Games 1985, the Canadian Under 18 Team, winner of series with the USA in 1986 and 1987 and the Ontario Under 17 Team, winner of the series with the Soviet team.
Dave coached in the NHL as Assistant Coach for the Minnesota North Stars 1989-1990 and as Head coach for the Quebec Nordiques 1990-1992.
As an Author, Dave has written 6 books – two of them best sellers, and both translated into Russian by the Russian Sports Federation:
