Biography

The 1953-1956 Metropolitan Motors baseball teams won an unprecedented 4 straight Toronto Championships. The teams were coached by Sylvan “Ron” Roncetti, who was inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 1998 as a Major League Baseball Scout.

Starting in 1953, Roncetti led his Leaside teams to four consecutive city championships at the Juvenile and Junior levels. The team had many superb athletes and included future major league baseball and hockey players:

Dr. Ron Taylor (2-time World Series Champion); Charlie Burns (NHL player and coach & Memorial Cup Champion); Bill Kennedy (2 time Memorial Cup Champion and Ontario University Champion); Garry Collins (2-time Memorial Cup Champion); Ron Wood (who went on to play semi pro ball); Ron Thomas (who served 27 years as an Ontario Court Justice); Joe Krol (legendary Toronto Argonaut Assistant Coach); Al Sokol (Albie Sokolski, longtime sportswriter with Toronto newspapers).
